*Ding* You are now free to move around...

My "specs" last week were off a little, I was estimating because I didn't get measurements from the ultrasound. This week, I know that the fetus is 1.5 inches, the heartbeat is 170, and I'm measuring 10 weeks, 2 days as of yesterday. He was wiggling around a lot yesterday and, in a new development, he's got elbows and knees...that bend!

I've now lost 4 pounds, but as you can imagine, my doctor isn't too concerned about that. I'm only slated to gain 15-25lbs during the pregnancy (vs. the normal 25-35) so I'm okay with it. It seems I can't stand meat or raw vegetables (which were the mainstay of my diet prior to this debacle!) and instead subsist on bread, cheese, cereal, and malt-o-meal. I just can't stomach anything that presents a challenge to my digestive system. Too much information...

Good news! I'm off of any special restrictions since the bleeding has all but stopped! My doctor also thinks that the bleeding was coming from my cervix, which shouldn't be a threat to the pregnancy, so that was reassuring.

My appointment yesterday was the last appointment before we break the news to everyone; we won't have another until after Christmas. I asked my doctor if it is okay to be optimistic at this point, and he said everything looks "very good." We'll tell everyone over the course of the holiday stuff this weekend.

Dancing Baby?

The Specs:

Gestation: 9 weeks LMP (7 weeks since conception)
Lenghth: 1.2 inches crown to rump
Weight: ~large paperclip
Heart rate: 186 BPM
Uterus: Small Cantelope
My Weight: -2 lbs

I had an appointment today to get a urine test to try to figure out what this nagging low grade fever is from. I don't really have other symptoms than nausea headaches that were already there before the fever, so it could be the flu and just feel relatively normal.

While I was there I got to see the fetus again! I'm getting spoiled, but I think it is about to change as things have been developing normally now for a couple of weeks. It was moving around! It had this kind of consistents back and forth motion at its, er, waist? like it was wagging it's tail (which, incidentally, is not there anymore as of this week).

Still on for the 12/16/08 appointment.

With Child

Three weeks ago today I found out that I was 5 1/2 weeks pregnant. I had been spotting consistantly (as usual) so I hadn't noticed a missed period, but my breasts were SO sore and I was overly tired (and in retrospect explained why I suddenly was overwhelmed with the lemon scented hand soap Jon uses at work when he got in the car at the end of the day!)...I picked a test up at the grocery store without telling Jon. He sure was surprised when I yelled from the bathroom.

Within a week I had a D&C scheduled because my hormone levels didn't appear to be indicative of a viable pregnancy. Jon and I went into the verifying ultrasound appointment pretty numb. We hadn't had time to even grasp the idea of pregnancy, but still felt kind of vacant for losing it so quickly. The fat pregnant ladies seemed to smile smugly at me as they nuzzled their happy husbands. I got into position for the ultrasound. We were both a little weepy, but pretty prepared for what we were about to see...we thought.

When the image came up we saw a tiny fetal pole and....a heart beat! All I could muster was, "This isn't what we are here for, that isn't supposed to be there." When we met with the doctor he said that we were obviously not out of the woods, but gave us an 85% chance of a successful pregnancy.

I've since had multiple HCG test and probably 3 or 4 more ultrasounds. I've continued to have light bleeding/spotting, so the doctor hesitates to reassure me too much, but yesterday, at 8 weeks 3 days we have a 1.8cm baby with a 170 heartrate, which is awesome. I'm tired and feel like crap, but we're trying to stay optimistic. I'm on restricted activity until the bleeding stops, at which point we'll have a better idea of the prognosis of the pregnancy. My next appointment is on 12/16/08.
